All-Star Senior Showcase set to tip-off Tuesday

MOUNT VERNON — As basketball season winds down and March Madness is in full swing, it’s time again for the 28th annual Mount Vernon News All-Star Senior Showcase. Featuring 44 of the area’s top senior basketball players, the games will be played on Tuesday night at Mount Vernon Nazarene University.

The girls contest, which will begin at 6 p.m. in the Physical Education Center, will feature two teams of 10 girls each. This year’s game features the Knox County Schools (Senior-Stars, coach by Centerburg coach Dan Stevens) playing against the non-Knox County Schools (All-Stars, coached by Highland coach Jeff Maibach).

Making up the Senior-Stars roster are: Kathy Higgins (Centerburg), Katie Payne (Danville), Kristin Miller (Danville), Elizabeth Looney (East Knox), Jessica Harris (East Knox), Katy Schwartz (East Knox), Brittany Seese (Mount Vernon), Lauren Hollis (Mount Vernon), Summer Swetlic (Mount Vernon), and Taryn Gallup (Mount Vernon).

The All-Stars are comprised of: Jena Dickerson (Clear Fork), Liz Bidlack (Clear Fork), Ashley Hilborn (Highland), Leslie Griffith (Highland), Kara Stiles (Johnstown), Devon Butler (Loudonville), Erin Reynolds (Loudonville), Courtney Swickard (Northridge), Leanna Probonic (Northridge), and Kylie Kierce (Utica).

The boys game will tip off at approximately 8 p.m., following the Three-Point Shootout. The Three-Point Shootout will be held in between games and will feature several senior contestants.

Playing for the Senior-Stars, which are coached by Mount Vernon Academy coach Mitch Erskine, are: Paul Crego (Centerburg), Zac DiMarco (Centerburg), Adam Renshaw (East Knox), Jeremy Looney (East Knox), Cody Smith (Fredericktown), Kyle Pelc (Fredericktown), Shawn Johnson (Fredericktown), Chris Glibert (Mount Vernon), Kyle Clinedinst (Mount Vernon), Tony Tear (Mount Vernon), Brian Groce (Mount Vernon Academy), and Ryan McFadden (Mount Vernon Academy).

The All-Stars, coached by Utica coach Mike DeLaney, are made up of: Brandon Smith (Clear Fork), Joe Fraley (Clear Fork), Randy Bartrum (Clear Fork), Zack Mowery (Danville), Gar Keen (Highland), Kasey Fifer (Highland), Blake Colopy (Johnstown), Caleb Orchard (Loudonville), Logan Scott (Loudonville), Clinton White (Utica), Cortland Backes (Utica), and Nick Joseph (Utica).

Tickets are available at the door, which open at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $5 for adults, $4 for students in grades 1-12. Children in kindergarten and under are free of charge.
