Mount Vernon 18, Wooster 12, 3OT
Leevi Stump’s 25-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Whitt put the Mount Vernon freshman ahead in the third overtime on Thursday, and Will Lawson recovered a Wooster fumble to secure the Yellow Jackets’ 18-12 victory.
Stump rushed for 161 yards to lead Mount Vernon, and Brad Fenton gained 40 yards on the ground. Collin Clark ran for 18 yards, and Lawson carried the ball for 14 yards. Shawn Maxwell went 8-of-11 through the air for 95 yards, and also ran for 3 yards.
Lawson also led the defense with nine tackles, a sack and the fumble recovery. Stump and Christian Derena each made five tackles, and Brandon Ruhl, Clark, Ceth Miller, Cody Clark and Cody Bailey had four tackles apiece.
Junior High Volleyball
Trojans beat Freddies; Freddies take Northridge
The Centerburg seventh-grade volleyball team earned a victory over Fredericktown on Monday, but the Freddies came back to beat Northridge on Thursday.
Sydney Hathaway had six points against the Trojans and eight against the Vikings in leading Fredericktown. Also against Northridge, Katie Ruhl added seven points, and Emily Willams had a kill.
The Fredericktown eighth-graders started the season off on Aug. 25 at Centerburg. The Freddies fell in two games, 25-8 and 26-24. They were back in action on Thursday and beat visiting Northridge handily, 25-21, 25-12.
Cassie Simpson led with 14 points. Kayla Casto, Lydia Webster and Celia Manns
each scored three points.
Fredericktown will travel to Danville for a game today.
