HOWARD — The Millersport Lakers’ season-long search for the endzone took them to Chet Looney Stadium on Friday evening. Unfortunately for the Lakers, they ran into a pack of wild dogs.

* - Conference Game   -Video Game of the Week
Friday turned out to be a "Sweet" night at Yellow Jacket Stadium.
After three weeks of nonleague play, the Fredericktown Freddies are ready to take on the Mid-Buckeye Conference. The Freddies gave a thorough thrashing to visiting Colonel Crawford, 38-7, Friday night, putting on a show for those who doubted the team’s ability.
The Danville Blue Devils used a strong defensive performance and a dominating rushing attack to defeat the Dalton Bulldogs, 13-6, Friday night. Danville (2-1) rushed for 252 yards and held Dalton to 119 total yards of offense on the way to the Blue Devils’ second victory.
The Millersport Lakers’ season-long search for the endzone took them to Chet Looney Stadium on Friday evening. Unfortunately for the Lakers, they ran into a pack of wild dogs.
The wait was worth it for Highland fans who attended the Scots’ game at North Union on Friday, as they turned around a 10-0 deficit in the final five minutes of the game to beat the Wildcats, 13-10.

The host East Knox Bulldogs (1-2) scored in bunches as they steamrolled the Lakers, 54-0, dominating on both sides of the football.

“I thought that our kids played real hard tonight,” said East Knox coach Tom Holton. “I’m real proud of them. We played a lot more fundamentally sound football than we have played this year. That was our emphasis this week — fundamentals.”

Running back Nick Kidd led the way for the Bulldogs, carrying the ball 17 times for 113 yards and three touchdowns.

“Nick played a good ball game,” said Holton. “He played a real good ball game. He ran the ball well and he played good defense for us also.”

Ten other Bulldogs accounted for East Knox’s other ground yards to give them a total of 392, compared to Millersport’s 49.

“We had a lot of guys contribute,” said Holton.” I thought that Steven Lilley (who kicked five PATs) ran the ball well from the fullback position. Brandon King (six rushes, 65 yards, one TD) made some nice runs. Colton Tucker (2 rushes, 42 yards, one TD) ran the ball well. Tyler (Clement, who was 2-for-5, 71 yards) did a pretty good job running our offense tonight and he ran the option pretty well.”

It didn’t matter very much what the Lakers tried. The Bulldogs had too many weapons.

“(The Lakers) were stuffing everybody up at the line of scrimmage,” said Holton, “They filled a lot of the gaps in and had a seven man line in a lot of the time. We had some pretty good blocking on the edge and we were able to get outside some.”

The Lakers (0-3) were overmatched, undermanned and outplayed by a Bulldogs team that is getting ready to face a series of tough MBC opponents in the coming weeks.

“The MBC is tough and the kids know that,” said Holton. “This win tonight helped them to take the next step. It’s always good to get a win. I told the guys, ‘it’s a great feeling to win a football game, but the league is coming up and we need to work that much harder to be successful in the MBC.’”
