MOUNT VERNON — With the regular season and the 2009 City Tournaments decided, the Mount Vernon Baseball Association has been busy forming the All-Star teams that will represent it this summer.

Two of those teams will represent the MVBA in the 2009 Memorial Classic before heading into the Little League District Tournaments — the 12-year-olds (Orange) and the 11-year-olds (Black). Also competing this summer at the 9-year-olds and the 10-year-olds.

The Mount Vernon Orange team, following in the footsteps of last year’s Great Lakes Region runners-up, is made up of Alex Arck, Dakota Back, Nathan Davis, Greg Dennis, Ryan Fitzgerald, Tyler Galbraith, Tyler Hedrick, Kevin McClain, Griffin Menke, J.D. Orr, Jared Pryor and Lucas Zambori. The team is managed by Phil Arck and is coached by Doug Orr and Dan Dennis.

The team will try to recreate some of the magic as they begin tournament play. Following the Classic, Orange will host the Little League District Tournament at Phillips Park, starting on July 12. Mount Vernon came from behind to beat Cambridge twice in last year’s district, and then carried that momentum on to a state title and nearly the Little League World Series. Alex Arck and Orr were part of the 2008 squad. The State Tournament is scheduled to begin July 25 in Tallmadge.

The Mount Vernon Black squad will also be playing in the Classic before heading off to Little League District competition. The team is managed by Shawn Carpenter and coached by Mike Doup and Dave Bolander. Members of the team include Micah Bolander, Owen Carpenter, Justin Davis, Lane Hinkle, Darrick Hubbard, Logan Jones, Cody McNichols, Bryant Shellenbarger, Drew Sims, Austin Springer, Justin Springer and Mason Williams.

Black will travel to Cambridge for the District Tournament, which starts July 15, and then if it qualifies, would play in the state tournament in Chesapeake beginning Aug. 1.

The Mount Vernon 9-year-olds and 10-year-olds open the postseason with tournaments at Johnstown and Lakewood. They will both play in the Little League District Tournament, beginning on July 15 in Cambridge. The State Tournament will be held starting on Aug. 1 in Cambridge.

Making up the 10-year-olds, which are managed by Jeremy Young, are Kane Baldwin, Collin Barteau, Jacob Booth, Cayleb Cole, Cade Finnell, Trace Hatfield, Harrison Hux, Cole Parrish, Jordan Radermacher, Jacob Tiell, Noah Yarman, Drew Young and Tim Zeller. The 9-year-old squad, which is managed by Steve Franko, includes Brody Blubaugh, Dylan Clark, Gerrit Franko, Jaret Gaumer, Dustin Hess, Nate Orr, Jeffrey Rucker, Zak Shannon, Marcus Shellenbarger, Ashton Spurgeon, Isaac Stallard and Trevin White.
