COLUMBUS — Two local athletes and two local coaches earned the highest honors in District 11 when it announced its All-District teams recently.
Mount Vernon senior Niki DiGuilio earned the girls Division I Player of the Year award. She averaged a Mount Vernon News-area best 20.8 points per game and 84.1 percent from the foul line. She shot 40.3 percent from the floor, including 28.6 percent from three-point range. The Central Michigan signee also had team-highs of 7.1 rebounds, 1.1 blocks and 2.1 assists per game, and also made 2.1 steals each game.
Mount Vernon senior Karina Shackle was named Honorable Mention.
Utica earned both top honors in Division II, as Abbie Corbett won Player of the Year and coach Michelle Snow was selected as Coach of the Year. Corbett was second in the area and first in the Mid-Buckeye Conference in scoring at 18.6 ppg, and dished out an area-best 7.5 assists per game. She was second in the area with a three-point percentage (38.7) and in steals (3.2), third in rebounds (7.3) and fourth in field-goal percentage (46.5).
Snow coached the Redskins to a 13-1 conference record, which tied Loudonville for the MBC championship.
