  • Celtics no match for Yellow Jackets

MOUNT VERNON — It’s been said that practice makes perfect, but for the Mount Vernon High School boys volleyball team, they’d rather be playing.

The Yellow Jackets got a break from practice on Tuesday night as Dublin Jerome came to town, and Mount Vernon made short work of the Celtics, winning the nonconference match in three games, 25-10, 25-8, 25-18.

“This was a good win; I am pleased with our effort,” said Mount Vernon coach Alan Cassell. “I thought we were kind of quiet tonight, but we were hustling. I like it when we talk a little more, but I liked our energy. I thought we played pretty well.”

“We came out and played our game,” said Mount Vernon senior Chris Ingersol. “We played like we should be playing. I think we really did well. We mixed some things up in the third game, and that allowed them to score a few points, but overall we did fine.”
