MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets, with an Ohio Capital Conference divisional title tucked away, pulled off a doubleheader sweep at home against Marion Pleasant on Saturday. The Jackets won the opener, 5-4, and took the nightcap, 9-6.

In the process, they notched their 22nd win of the season to tie the school record for the most wins. They set the record in 1994 and equaled it in 1996.

“We’ve got one more week of regular season to go so we have time to work on extending that a little bit, if we can,” said Mount Vernon coach Doug Savage.

Mount Vernon’s Riley Swanson tossed a complete game in the opener, scattering 10 hits, as the Jackets held off the Spartans.

After the Jackets took a 3-1 lead early with an RBI by center fielder Robert Kane, both he and shortstop Tad Glibert were stranded as Derek Baker (2-for-4) ended the inning.
