PICKERINGTON — The Danville High School softball team put on a power display Tuesday.
The Lady Blue Devils smacked three home runs and rolled to a 7-0 victory over Ridgedale in a Division IV Central District Semifinal at Pickerington Central.
“That was awesome. Our bats have really went crazy in the tournament. We’re finally putting it all together,” said Danville coach Maryellyn Matheny. “Today, it was either a home run or nothing, though. We could not find anything in between. We weren’t real patient at the plate.”
Senior Hannah Matheny was the home run queen on the day, slugging two and driving in four runs for the Blue Devils (21-7). Her first one came in the first inning after Jessica Blubaugh had walked and stole second. The second was a line shot to right field that also drove in Blubaugh, who had singled with one out in the fifth.
“I felt pretty good at the plate today — very confident,” said Matheny. “I didn’t really expect it. I thought both of them were popouts, especially the first one.”
Morgan Lauderbaugh added a solo shot in the third inning to help the Devils’ cause.
