DANVILLE — For the past four seasons, the Danville High School softball team has relied on a core group of players to provide support, leadership and athletic ability. This season is no different.
At the heart of the Blue Devils are two seniors — Kaleigh Conner and Hannah Matheny — both four-year letter winners and starters. The duo has experienced much during their high-school careers, winning four district titles and winning a state title in 2008.
“Winning the state championship was great,” said Conner. “This year, I got captain and was First Team (Mid-Buckeye Conference) and All-District. Those are great honors.
“This is my last year and I want to go out with a bang,” added Conner. “There is no next year to turn to. ... It is very hard to believe that I’m a senior; it went by very fast.”
Matheny has accomplished an even rarer feat — being a four-year captain.
“This has been awesome,” said Matheny. “Every year has been a lot of fun, a little different each year. I’ve really enjoyed it.
