PICKERINGTON — The sultry track at Pickerington North High School was the end of the line for a lot of Mount Vernon High School’s track and field athletes Wednesday afternoon.

Lucas Armstrong, the only member of the Mount Vernon boys track team still competing this season, qualified for the Division I Regional Finals by winning his heat of the 400-meter dash in 50.94 seconds.

“I’m sitting with the fourth fastest time right now, and only four go on to state,” Armstrong said. “I love when it is hot out; the conditions were perfect today.”

Armstrong wasn’t the only Yellow Jacket who enjoyed the warm weather. Sarah Baker helped her team set a school record in the 4x800-meter relay with a time of 9:43.50.
