LANCASTER — Four Fredericktown High School track and field athletes qualified for the Ohio State Track and Field Meet in five different events on Friday night. Two of those athletes broke school records.
Delaney McGuire took a half of a second off Fredericktown’s school record in the 800-meter run with his 1:59.52 finish. His record-setting time earned him a fourth-place finish in the race, and a berth to the state meet.
“I was so pumped, it felt great,” said McGuire. “I went across the line and saw the winner’s time. I was right behind him, so I knew I broke two minutes.”
Isaac Potes, who set a school record in the 1,600-meter run last weekend, bettered his own record by less than a second.
Racing against the defending state champion, Carson Britton, Potes ran in second place the entire race to finish in 4:23.18. Britton finished less than two seconds ahead of Potes.
