UTICA — Baseball can be a mean game.

The Utica Post 92 Royals outhit Marion Post 584, 9-2, but couldn’t find enough magic in a last-inning rally and fell, 4-3, to the visiting team in the Utica American Legion Tournament, Friday, at Utica’s American Legion Field.

“It was a little lopsided in hits, but we still took the loss,” said Royals coach Derek Morey. “We did not get runners over and get them into scoring position. We just did not do very well offensively.”

The Royals started out like gangbusters, smacking three straight singles to open the game. Riley Swanson led off the game with a single, moved up on one by Mike Hedrick and scored on a single by Zak Harrod. But, a double play got Post 584 out of the jam with just one run crossing the plate.
