LOUDONVILLE — Area runner Kim Boner (9:43.14) took first place in the 50-mile run Saturday at the 2010 Mohican 100 Trail Run at Loudonville. Two other area runners, Chris Gillen and Cheryl Splain, participated in the full 100 miles.
The reconfigured course goes on the hiking and mountain bike trail in the Mohican State Memorial Forest. A section of the course takes the runners along the local roads.
For most runners, the heat and humidity of this year’s race was their biggest opponent.
“It was pretty rough this morning, but I got up and moved around a little,” said Boner on Sunday, who avoided the worst of the heat. “We started out at five in the morning on Saturday, so we were running in the dark for the first hour or hour and a half. Back in the woods, it doesn’t get light as soon as it does for everyone who is not in the woods. Because I ran in the 50-miler, I was back in the woods before it got too darn hot. By noon, I was back in the woods. That was good, but the 100-milers were baking out on the road for a while.”
