MOUNT VERNON — Money Concepts braved a thunderstorm and its first defeat of the year to win the Mount Vernon 16-and-under Softball League Tournament, defeating A+ Autobrokers in the final game, 6-5, Sunday at Memorial Park.
Money Concepts jumped in front, 4-0, in the opening inning of the finale, but it was not an easy path to victory. Despite leading by as many as six runs, it was a nail-biter in the end.
Earlier in the day, A+ defeated Presley Construction, 10-8, to win the consolation bracket. Then, it did what no other team in the league could do all year — hung a defeat on Money Concepts, forcing a final, deciding game. The 5-4 win by A+ in the penultimate game was sparked by a two-run fourth and a two-run fifth.
