  • Bulldogs win cheer competition

MOUNT VERNON — Enthusiasm filled the air during the Dan Emmett Music & Arts Festival 5th Annual Cheer Competition on Thursday. Schools from all across Knox County and in surrounding areas came out to show off their cheer-tastic energy.
Teams took to the mats to in three divisions: Freshman, Junior Varsity and Varsity.
Judges grade on four different categories: Group skills — teams’ motions, jumps, and dance; elements — synchronization and timing, transitions, formation and spacing, flow and pace; cheer and crowd leading — effective/appropriate words, appropriate skills, and use of signs, pom-poms, flags and megaphone; overall effect — showmanship, choreography, and overall impression.
Claiming title of champion for freshman division was Mount Vernon High School Freshman cheer squad: Abigail Briggs, Aimee Emrisko, Emily Hart, Alexa Helman, Kennedy Horner, Alicia Jones, Carmen Matthews, and coach Ashley Miller.
In the Junior Varsity division Fredericktown High School Junior varsity squad was named champion: Brenna Lifer, Lean Stotler, Cierra Sapp, Kenzie Bebout, Brittany Cockrell, Maddie McGuire, Kaitlyn Frazier, Sarah Lauer, and coach Tiffany Northrop.
