  • No troubles on field for MV in win over Flames

  • September 13, 2010 11:04 am EDT

COLUMBUS — The Mount Vernon boys soccer team ran into some trouble on its way to Saturday’s game at Columbus Crew Stadium. The school bus got a flat tire on the trip, causing some concern as the Jackets waited on the freeway for help to arrive. Once they arrived at the stadium, though, there weren’t any problems with their play.

The Yellow Jackets blitzed Mansfield Christian early and often, rolling to a 7-1 victory on Saturday at the major league stadium in Columbus.

“Obviously, our guys had a fun day today. Even though every time we play here it rains, it doesn’t take away from the experience the kids have had,” said Mount Vernon coach Scott Dapprich. “It’s been a blast. It was fun watching them possess, pass and cut off the ball.

“This is a special senior group. I know with the senior group, we’ve had a lot of good memories. But, I don’t want this to be our last memory. This is a stepping stone moving forward for what we’re trying to accomplish. Our guys have certain goals. We need to enjoy this moment and enjoy this time, but also keep pressing on.”
