MOUNT VERNON — Charlie Phillips has received many awards for his golf game. Now he has another.

Phillips was named All-Area Golfer of the Year by the sports writers and editors at the Mount Vernon News.

The Mount Vernon senior is a First Team All-Ohio award winner for 2010, as well as the Central District Golfer of the Year. He finished third in the Ohio High School Golf championship. He is currently ranked 94th nationally by the American Junior Golf Association.

Joining him as a member of the News All-Area team is teammate Brody Harwell. Harwell placed Second Team on the All-OCC list, helping the Yellow Jackets to a second-place finish in the conference.

Centerburg’s Garrison Myles and Troy Lemke also earned All-Area honors. The two helped the Trojans reach the state championship tournament. Myles is expected to sign a letter of intent with Malone University later this week.

Rounding out the All-Area list for 2010 are Danville’s Nate Zuene, who earned All-MBC honors, and Highland’s Nate Wyscarver.

Centerburg coach Nathan Altizer was named All-Area Coach of the Year.
