  • Utica loses close one to Heath

UTICA — The Utica Redskins boys basketball team was outsized and outmuscled. But it certainly wasn’t outhustled.

Utica held on throughout Tuesday’s game with Heath, trading blow for blow, before finally succombing to the Bulldogs, 41-40.

“Our boys aren’t going to back down from anybody,” Utica head coach Eric Sheck said. “After we withstood their (Heath’s) start, we battled them right to the end. We had a chance to win the game. Unfortunately, the ball just didn’t bounce our way.”

The Redskins played a tight defense, but a clean one. By the final minute of the game, they had accumulated just five fouls. But that would be their undoing, because when they couldn’t take the lead with a minute left, they were forced to foul four times to force Heath to the line.
