FREDERICKTOWN — The Fredericktown Freddies wrestling team is a walking, breathing example of how it’s possible to lose every team event, yet still come out looking like a winner.

The Freddies haven’t fielded a full team all season. In fact, injuries have cut the number of active wrestlers down to three.

But, can those three wrestle.

The Freddies faced off against East Knox and Utica in a tri-meet at Fredericktown High School on Wednesday. Even though they lost both events (East Knox won, 36-17, and Utica won, 60-16) the individual efforts of the Freddies impressed those in attendance.

Fredericktown wrestled four official matches in Wednesday’s tri-meet, winning all four. Nolan Dilts (130 pounds) faced East Knox’s Cade Mickley first, getting a 19-4 major decision. Dilts then took on Utica’s Jayson Faller, and got the pinfall in 1:48.

Fredericktown’s Wyatt Owens (145 pounds), who didn’t wrestle an East Knox opponent (he won via forfeit), managed to pin Utica’s Cameron Manley in 1:15.

Cody McGuire also had just one opponent. He defeated Utica’s Kevin Bigler, 17-4.
