CENTERBURG — This wasn’t just a conference-clincher for the Centerburg girls basketball team. It was a statement.

The Trojans went out and thoroughly handled the East Knox Bulldogs, 67-26, on Saturday, to lock up the Mid-Buckeye Conference title on their home court.

“(Winning the title) is a goal for every team in the conference, so I’m very, very happy for those kids,” Centerburg head coach Todd Nauman said.

This wasn’t any pushover East Knox team. The Bulldogs were still in contention until Saturday, something that hasn’t been true for years.

“(Centerburg) had a goal in mind,” East Knox head coach Jim Davis said, “and that was an outright championship. We still had a chance to possibly tie them. They knew that, and they came out and just took it to us.”

There are games when certain players step up and lead their team to victory. In this case, it seemed, every player stepped up for Centerburg. Twelve players scored for Centerburg, as coach Nauman made sure all of his healthy players took part in the historic game.
