UTICA — The host Utica Redskins withstood the cold weather and three home runs by the hard-hitting Centerburg Trojans to claw their way to a 10-7 win in Mid-Buckeye Conference softball action on Wednesday.

Utica third baseman Erin Rodgers went 3-for-4 and knocked in four runs including a key 3-run blast in the bottom of the third to tie the score at 4. She scored three times herself.

The Trojans grabbed the early lead on a homer by third baseman Meghan Altizer in the opening inning and another by Natasha Sears in the third.

“We saw the ball well and we drilled it today,” said Centerburg coach Gary Lambert. “I can’t use the cold as an excuse. It’s cold for both sides.”

It was in the bottom of that same third inning that Rodgers hit her homer with Storm Diewald and Lareese Marston aboard.
