MOUNT VERNON — There was just enough sunshine and blue skies in Mount Vernon to shine down on the area field athletes as they showcased their jumping and throwing skills in the Mount Vernon News SpecTRACKular on Friday evening.
Fredericktown’s Tayler Carpenter placed second in the long jump and tied for second in the high jump. Later, she won the 100- and 200-meter dashes to take home the girls Most Valuable Competitor honors.
“I’ve been looking forward to (SpecTRACKular) all week,” said Carpenter. “I really wanted to do well in the county. It’s really great out here because there’s always really good competition in the field events and the running events.”
Dana VanDervort (16-4) of Northridge edged Carpenter (16-1 3/4) in the long jump, and Utica’s Shannon Chandler (15-3 3/4) was third.
Jessica Rhoden of Mount Vernon bested Carpenter and Kendall Colvin of Johnstown at 5-1 3/4 in the high jump.
