DANVILLE — It didn’t take long for the floodgates to open Monday for the Danville baseball team.
Leading 1-0 in the second inning even though they had two runners picked off by the Millersport pitcher, the Blue Devils erupted for five runs in the inning and rolled to a 13-0, five-inning victory over the Lakers in the Division IV sectional tournament at Danville.
“This is a very good win, a very good win for our seniors,” said Danville coach Brian Bratton. “We came out in the first inning a little shaky offensively. But, we came back in the second inning and dropped five runs on them.
“We hit the ball hard and put it in play. I’ve told the kids, if we hit it hard, put it in play and make them make plays on the field, that’s where our runs will come from.”
With two outs in the second, the Blue Devils’ bottom third of the order got things going in a big way. Derek Baker walked, then watched as Davis Culler, Brandon Crawford, Zach Brewer, Shaun Durbin and Nate Zeune all followed with hits and the Devils (7-17) were up 6-0.
