DANVILLE — The Danville softball team is heading back home. To its second home, anyway.
The Blue Devils scored early and often Thursday, rolling to a 10-4 victory over Grove City Christian in the Division IV Sectional finals at Danville. The win put the Devils in the district tournament at Pickerington Central High School for the sixth straight year. They will face Fisher Catholic, a 10-0 winner over Tree of Life, in the district semifinals Tuesday at 5 p.m.
“This is really nice. It’s fun to play there (Pickerington),” said Danville junior pitcher Molly Alberts. “This is a big game for us. They (Fisher Catholic) mercied us the first time, so we’ve got to prove ourselves. It should be a good game.”
The Devils (8-16) got started early Thursday, scoring twice in the first inning. Jess Blubaugh led off the inning with a single, then moved to second when Darci Lauderbaugh bunted the ball over the head of a charging Caitlin Kennedy at third base. A wild pitch put them both in scoring position, and Alberts delivered a single to give the Devils a 2-0 lead.
