PICKERINGTON — One Mount Vernon athlete saved her best for last. Another will give it another try next year.

Jessica Roden cleared 5-feet-2 on the high jump at the Division I Regional Tournament at Pickerington North High School on Wednesday. That was good enough for second place and a spot in next week’s state tournament.

Leevi Stump went 21-1 3/4 in the long jump — good for eighth place, but not enough to advance.

Roden qualified for the regional tournament with a 5-2 jump at districts. She’s been jumping 5-2 consistently for most of the season. It’s been enough to keep her season alive.

“This feels awesome,” said Roden, after learning she had qualified for state. “I’m just really excited to get to state. I really feel that it’s going to be a lot of pressure, but confidence is key.”
