FREDERICKTOWN — When Fredericktown’s Garrett Gatton goes to the 2011 OHSAA State Track and Field championships this weekend, he will have his teammates, coaches, parents, friends, well-wishers and, most of all, the conviction of his beliefs.
“This isn’t about me,” said Gatton. “I offer this to God and the strength He gives me.”
As a state qualifier in three different events, Gatton has the opportunity and the experience to win it all and stand on the highest step on the podium as state champion.
He could do it in the 300-meter hurdles, where he PR’d in the regionals with a 39.44. Perhaps he could take the 110-hurdles. If he is anywhere around the 14.95 he ran at the regionals he will certainly stand somewhere on the podium. He might even have a shot in the 4x400 relay. Certainly, standing atop the podium as part of a group would be the best prize of all.
