COLUMBUS — Just making it to the state tournament is good. But while you’re there, turn a few heads.
That’s what some of the Fredericktown track and field athletes did on Friday for Day 1 of the OHSAA State Track and Field Championships at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
Tayler Carpenter saved her best performance for last. Steadily improving in the long jump throughout the season, Carpenter literally jumped right into the Freddies record book on Friday.
Her third and final jump in the semifinal round went for 16 feet, 10 inches — shattering the school record and giving her a ninth-place finish at state.
