UTICA — In the final day of the Utica Tournament, the Utica Post 92 baseball team faced a team that went to last year’s state tournament.
If the Royals were intimidated, it didn’t show.
Instead, Utica came out firing on Sunday, never letting up, eventually beating the team from Worthington Post 239 by a score of 7-5.
The Royals (6-1) busted out the heavy hitting in the afternoon game, smacking three home runs. Justin Edwards (3-for-4, 2 RBIs) came just one single away from the cycle. Kenny Rucker (2-for-3) hit a 2-run round-tripper in the third. And Ethan Abell added a solo home run in the fourth.
Worthington, which played the tournament game as the home team, got the scoring started with three runs in the first. The team added another run in the second when Utica pitcher Shawn Maxwell struck a batter with a pitch, then allowed a single and an RBI double.
