FREDERICKTOWN —The Fredericktown school board has approved Mark Delaney as the new athletic director and boys basketball coach.

Delaney also becomes dean of students.

He is replacing Kirk Manns, who stepped away after 11 years at Fredericktown to accept the AD role at Mansfield Madison.

“I’m excited to be here,” Delaney said from his new desk in the athletic office at Fredericktown High School. “This is a good chance to be back where I belong.”

Delaney coached boys basketball at Marion Local High School in Maria Stein last year. The Flyers, a Division IV school, finished the season with a 13-9 mark, losing 66-56 in the sectional finals to eventual district champ Minster.

The position at Fredericktown is much closer to Delaney’s long-time home. Delaney is a 2002 graduate of Clear Fork High School. His wife is a graduate from there as well.

“There is a closeness here that is unique to Fredericktown,” Delaney said. “I love this area. The community is very much involved here.”
