MOUNT VERNON — Not even two rain delays in the first inning could keep the Knox County Royals from finally getting a crack at one of the best teams in the state — a team they missed playing last weekend because of a rainout in the championship round of the Cincinnati tournament.

Pickerington, 23-1 going into Monday’s showdown with the Royals on the carpeted infield at Mount Vernon Nazarene University, was expected to be the Royals’ biggest test of the season. The Royals, however, held off one threat after another and hung on to a hard-fought 6-5 win.
