MOUNT VERNON — Pitching, defense and timely hitting.

Those three things are key to the success of any baseball team. Get one or two and you can find success. Get all three and you can be a champion.

Carpenter DDS got all three Tuesday, cruising to the Minor League Tournament championship with a 2-1 victory over Presley Construction at Phillips Park.

“This was a total team effort. The kids never gave up,” said Carpenter DDS manager Troy Gallagher.
