MOUNT VERNON — There are some high expectations at this year’s district tournaments for the Mount Vernon All-Stars.

Two of last year’s state tournament teams return virtually intact. Both are a year older — and a year wiser — and are ready to take the next step.

The 12-year-olds come off an impressive tournament victory in Johnstown over Fourth of July weekend. Last year, as the 11-year-old representative, the team rolled into state with an unblemished record, then went on to win the next two games before stumbling in a couple of heartbreakers.

“We ran into some tough luck last year,” said 12-year-old All-Stars manager Dan Trace. “We should be in good shape this time.”

Jacob Tiell, Tim Zeller, Cade Finnell, Trace Hatfield and Colin Barteau return from that team. They’ll be joined by Jarrod Laslo, Kane Baldwin, Logan Springer, Fred Hart, Cole Parrish and Tyler Fleming.
