SPARTA — For the first time since Utica Post 92 restarted its baseball program, it can call itself District Champ.

The Knox County Royals staged a dramatic comeback in the seventh inning to stun Marysville Post 79, 7-6, and claim the district title.

Utica’s perfect 4-0 run in the tournament didn’t have many dramatic moments until the final game. The Royals had outscored its opponents, 32-14, in three games leading up to Saturday’s championship. They had already downed Marysville, 10-5, just a few days prior.

The Royals had even jumped to a 4-2 lead in the second, thanks to some solid baserunning by Nick Mazgay and a three-run home run over the left field wall by Nich Pitzer.
