CENTERBURG — One week into volunteer football camp, Anthony Naples is getting the most out of his team.

The Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets football team had its first intersquad scrimmage on Tuesday, visiting the Centerburg Trojans. Like the Trojans, the Jackets have a number of returning veterans. Unlike the Trojans, Mount Vernon has a new head honcho calling the shots.

“These are some really good kids,” said Naples of the several dozen players who showed up on Tuesday. “They work hard, and they’re improving.”

Centerburg provided a good measuring stick for the Yellow Jackets. The Trojans look to improve from last year, when they were competitive in the Mid-Buckeye Conference, yet couldn’t finish games out. On Tuesday, they held their own against a Division II school.
