MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon High School turns another page this week as Mark Shively takes the reins as the new activities director. It is an exciting, new opportunity for the former athletic director at New Lexington High School.
“The biggest driving force for me is that it is a bigger opportunity,” said Shively. “It’s a larger school, so I was looking for the challenges that come with working for a larger school — more responsibility.”
Shively comes on board just as the sports program has undergone some major changes, particularly on the football team, which is under the guidance of first year coach Anthony Naples.
“I think one of the biggest challenges is helping the new coach be as successful as he can be,” said Shively. “He’s doing the things that need to be done. He has some experience as an athletic director. Certainly, he’s looking for things from me to help him out.
Ohioans are renown for their love of high school football and Mount Vernon is no exception. For the new AD, however, his new job is more than just football.
