MOUNT VERNON — Birds in the air, the wind blowing through the trees, children playing in a pool. These are the sounds of summer.

On Monday, they quickly gave way to the crackling of pads and the calling of audibles.

Football season officially returned on Monday with the start of two-a-days around the state of Ohio.

That included the Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets, who took part in their first mandatory practice under new head coach Anthony Naples.

Having a new coach means adapting to new ways of training. Many of the 35 players in attendance will admit that it hasn’t been easy.
