MOUNT VERNON — In a game full of big plays, it was a big play in the end that cost Mount Vernon a shot at a huge upset.

Just seconds after C.J. Atherton scored a dramatic tying touchdown with 1:02 to play, Lexington’s Brandon Henderson took a pass from Collin Michael and ran the length of the field to give the Minutemen a 35-28 win at Yellow Jacket Stadium.

“I’m not sure anybody in the state of Ohio thought that we could play with anybody this year,” said Mount Vernon head coach Anthony Naples. “Especially a team like (Lexington.) But we believe. And these guys started to believe.”
