MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets fell a few lucky breaks shy of reclaiming the Kent Miller Colonial Fall Invitational team championship at Hiawatha Golf Course on Saturday.
The Jackets finished with a score of 317, 14 strokes behind first-place Columbus Academy. Academy held off New Albany and Westerville Central to beat both by one stroke in the closest Invitational in years.
Mount Vernon score was good enough for eighth place in the 21-team field. The Jackets were led by Dom DiGuilio, who was at 1-under through 12 holes before finishing at a 4-over 76. He missed out of a Top 10 finish by two strokes.
“(On the front nine) I was making putts,” said DiGuilio. “I wasn’t on the green every time, but I was getting up and down for par.”
