FREDERICKTOWN — The Highland Fighting Scots combined splendid backcourt play and steady serving to sweep the Fredericktown Freddies on their home court Monday night in interconference girls volleyball action, 25-17, 25-15, 25-16.
With the win, the Scots have now taken down two traditionally strong area teams to start the season (Highland beat Centerburg in the season opener.)
“We can do that, when we are focused on doing it and ready to go,” said Highland coach Rob Terrill, whose team notched 14 aces for the match. “We had a tough one at Centerburg and that was a good match to start off the season with. Beating them in four games was exciting for the girls. We won here in our first away game and we start (Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference) play on Thursday and we want to win the league.”
The 2-0 start has gotten Highland seniors like libero Cassie Brown plenty excited.
“I’m very excited because, it’s my senior year and just want everything to go the way it’s supposed to go,” said Brown. “We’re starting off really good.”
The Freddies, who got out to a 3-1 lead in Game 1, just couldn’t hold serve against an aggressive Highland team.
