MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets made quick work of the visiting Golden Falcons of Franklin Heights. Strong in all phases of the game, the Jackets swept the Falcons, 25-10, 25-13, 25-11 in Tuesday evening Ohio Capital Conference volleyball action.
“I think that we had a real good team effort,” said Mount Vernon volleyball coach Erika Feick. “That’s something that I can say about our team is that everybody consistently chips in. Whether they are on the bench or out on the floor, they all put the same amount of time into practice and they’re ready to play. However much or little, they’ll get to play. It really is a good group of girls to coach in that aspect. They’re pretty versatile, so if I need one of them to just serve, they can do that, or just defense, then they can do that as well.”
The Golden Falcons (0-2 OCC) have some work to do before they can compete with the best of the OCC, but the Jackets prepared for them as if it was a league champion coming to visit.
“We have to prepare for games at practice the same way, no matter who we’re playing,” said Feick. “We really don’t focus on the team. We just focus on getting better each practice. Our girls get really excited — especially for home matches — and they are going to want to kill the ball because that’s what they like to do.”
Alex Miglin, who led the Jackets with six kills, knows that going full throttle is the only way to go.
“We want to win OCC this year,” said Miglin. “The only way to do that is to give it our all. If we can’t do that, then we can’t win OCC. Beating Franklin Heights is just one other game that we have to win to get it.”
If these girls win the OCC title, they will do it as a single unit.
