UTICA — It wasn’t pretty on either side, but the host Utica Redskins (1-3. 1-0 MBC) held on to win their Mid-Buckeye Conference opener against the winless East Knox Bulldogs, 14-7, in a game of thrills and spills.
Both sides sputtered at times and appeared brilliant at others.
“Both teams played a defense that the other had not seen,” said Utica coach Randy Felumlee. “So, both offenses moved the ball, but not consistently enough to score a lot of points.”
Early in the game, Utica safety Stone Van Wey appeared to have an interception, only to be called for defensive pass interference, allowing East Knox to have a first down at the Utica 32. The Bulldogs marched the ball down to the Redskins’ 7, where their drive ran out of steam when running back Mason Lyon was stopped cold on fourth down.
