FREDERICKTOWN — It happened again — only in reverse.
In the latest chapter of the Centerburg Trojans versus Fredericktown Freddies Mid-Buckeye Conference girls volleyball rivalry, the visiting team, once again, walked away victorious. This time, it was the first place Trojans (6-1 MBC) who walked away with a 19-25, 25-17, 25-20, 25-20 win.
In the MBC opener, the Freddies dealt the Trojans their only conference loss of the season.
The Freddies didn’t make it easy on the Trojans and did not back down at all during the match.
“Centerburg and Fredericktown have always been rivals and there is a lot of tradition backing it up,” said Centerburg coach Ami Stevens. “We are always excited to play Fredericktown because they’re high competition.”
Tied up at 19 in the first game, Fredericktown broke out on top with a pair of kills by Lydia Webster (10 points, eight kills, four digs and a block) and another by Courtney Jackson (five kills, 20 digs and a block) to make it 22-19. The Freddies finished off the Trojans in Game 1 with a kill by Cassie Simpson (six points, four kills, three digs, two blocks).
