MOUNT VERNON — After losing three straight games, the Mount Vernon boys soccer team was in need of a win to help its confidence.

Mission accomplished.

The Yellow Jackets got two first-half goals, then held on to beat Watkins Memorial 3-1 in Ohio Capital Conference action Tuesday at Mount Vernon.

“This was a good win,” said Mount Vernon coach Scott Dapprich. “We had played three real tough games ... and wanted to come back. Watkins always plays hard and physical. Our guys stepped up and made some things happen.”
