WEST LAFAYETTE — For one, it was a satisfying conclusion to a high school career. For another, it was a possible stepping stone for better things to come.
Danville senior Molly Mickley and Centerburg sophomore Faithe Carr can add another line to their respective golf resumes — 2011 district qualifier.
Neither qualified in Wednesday’s meet at River Green Golf Club to move on to the state championship. However, that didn’t appear to bother Mickley one bit.
“I’ve had a great year,” said Mickley as he headed back to Danville after the meet. “My goal was to make it to districts, and I did it. I’m very happy with that.”
Mickley (47-49-96), like all the teams and individuals, had to wait nearly two hours during a morning fog delay. Once she finally hit the links, Mickley played well through the first seven holes. Then she ran into trouble on the next two holes and knocked herself out of contention.
“She kept hitting it into the trees,” said Danville head coach Pat Mickley. “River Green has these pine trees that are really low. She made the mistake of trying to hit out of them. But then, even if you take a penalty, laying the ball two club lengths out doesn’t get you out of trouble.”
Molly Mickley ended up with a double-bogey and triple-bogey.
