MOUNT VERNON — East Knox and Fredericktown are coming into their game Friday from different directions.

The Bulldogs are fresh off their best performance of the year in a 36-0 victory over Northridge, while the Freddies may have had one of their worst in a 41-7 beating by Johnstown.

Fredericktown coach Brian Baum thinks his team is handling the beating well and will be ready for the Bulldogs (1-5 overall, 1-2 MBC).

“They’ve reacted well. That was a tough loss,” Baum said. “We’ve got to go out and recoup. Each week is a different week and we’ve got to go after it.”

The Freddies (3-3, 2-1) struggled handling the large, physical line and the strong running game of the Johnnies. This week, they’ll see something completely different.

East Knox brings in one of the top passing attacks in the area. Quarterback Cody Howard has thrown for nearly 400 yards, while Dylan Wears can also fling it, as he has thrown for 323 yards. Wears is also the team’s leading rusher with 522 yards.

“They’ve got nice athletes all over the field,” Baum said. “They do a couple of different things to get the ball to Wears. We have to ID where is he and keep an eye on him.”
