MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon boys soccer team sent its eight seniors out in style Thursday.
The Jackets honored their seniors and their parents prior to the game with Lancaster, then went out and beat the Gales 3-0.
“This was a good way to send off the seniors,” said Mount Vernon coach Scott Dapprich. “I’m very proud of the guys and the way they’ve handled themselves.
“We’ve had eight seniors finish four years with us. Sometimes, some will go a different way, but these guys stuck it out. Some of them may not have gotten as much playing time as they’d like, but they still hung around. That means a lot to me.”
Playing in their final home regular season game were Cody Peterson, Matt Madtes, Travis Kiger, Jackson Fox, Sam Miller, Dan Eddy, Graham Hughes and Miles Kahrl.
It was Lancaster, though, that came out firing. The Gales had a couple of great opportunities early, but the Jacket defense was able to turn them away.
The Jackets (9-7) got it back in the other end and got on the board thanks to a nice throw-in pass from Eddy. From the left corner, Eddy tossed in a nice pass that Seth Badger headed past Lancaster goalie Michael Dugel-Bryant for a 1-0 lead.
