UTICA — The race for first place in girls volleyball in the Mid-Buckeye Conference was all wrapped up by the Centerburg Trojans a few days ago.
To watch the Utica Redskins and the Centerburg Trojans go head-to-head on Thursday evening, however, one wouldn’t be able to tell. The gymnasium at Utica High School was charged with the atmosphere of a championship battle.
The Trojans had to fight off a fierce Redskins’ challenge, managing to actually pull off a hard-fought sweep, 25-20, 25-21, 25-23.
The Trojans, led by Tristan Simpson’s 21 kills and Kendall Compton’s 29 assists, had no easy task against the Redskins, who were fighting to hold on to second place in the MBC.
