MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets did all they could to make their homecoming game a memorable one.

Jackets win wild homecoming game, 21-14
On Friday, the Jackets opened up the playbook, fought off 120 yards in penalties, sat through a lightning delay and used an interception by A.J. Smith with 1:06 to play to claim a 21-14 victory over Watkins Memorial in Ohio Capital Conference action.
Mount Vernon’s (2-6, 2-3 OCC) coaching staff knew going in that the Warriors were preparing to stop the run. The Jackets have been a running team all season long, with the strategy consisting of spreading defenses with sweeps and off-tackles.
On Friday, Mount Vernon introduced its air attack.
Shawn Maxwell had the game of his career, completing 19 out of 23 passes for 230 yards and two scores. Most importantly, for the second straight home game, he didn’t turn the ball over.
