POWELL — It wasn’t the typical Highland Scots volleyball match.

Except that they won.

The Scots advanced to the district finals with a 19-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-22 victory over the Granville Blue Aces on Wednesday at Olentangy Liberty High School.

For one thing, Highland hadn’t yet defeated a champion in another conference this season (the Blue Aces shared the MSL-Ohio Division title.)

For another, it isn’t typical for Highland to start off slow. But that’s what the team did, giving up nine straight points in the first game.

“When we don’t play defense, we struggle,” said Highland head coach Rob Terrill. “We’re not the quickest team; we know that. We have to compensate for that by just playing hard. And I thought they (Granville) were playing harder than we were.”
