MOUNT VERNON — No one was more consistent, more dominating and meant more to his team than Danville golfer Nate Zeune.
For those reasons, Zeune was chosen as the Mount Vernon News All-Area Golfer of the Year.
Zeune led the Blue Devils to a third-place finish in the Mid-Buckeye Conference. He was the lowest scorer in conference meets, earning him MBC Player of the Year honors. Zeune hit a 78 in the Division III sectional tournament at Darby Creek Golf Course, qualifying him for districts. At the district tournament in Circleville, he shot a 9-over 81, missing the state tournament by just three strokes.
Mount Vernon has three golfers named to First Team All-Area. Adam O’Hara won First Team All-OCC honors with his 81 average over four conference meets. Only New Albany’s top three golfers posted better rounds. O’Hara’s teammate, Dom DiGuilio, earned Second Team All-OCC honors with an average of 82, including two rounds of 78. Matt O’Hara was the sole Yellow Jacket to qualify for the district tournament when he posted a score of 76 at the sectional tournament in Granville.
Centerburg’s Austin Garber is the final First Team All-Area honoree. Garber helped lead the Trojans to a share of the MBC championship, earning First Team All-MBC honors in the process.
All-Area Honorable Mention golfers include Utica’s Nate Wyscarver and Broc Stradley; Centerburg’s Cole Metcalf, Ian Jensen and Faithe Carr; East Knox’s Robert Sloboda; and Danville’s Molly Mickley.
For leading his team to a conference title and keeping his golfers in top shape throughout the season, Centerburg coach Nate Altizer is the All-Area Golf Coach of the Year.
All winners were chosen by Mount Vernon News sports writers and editors.
